Tea House and Charred Wood

One of the things I wanted to be when I grew up was an architect. Obviously, that didn't happen, but I still love browsing through architectural magazines. I was reading through the May issue of Dwell and they did a profile on Japanese architect and historian, Terunobu Fujimori. His designs are so unique and he uses interesting materials like volcanic rock and charred cedar. I would love to live in a house designed by him.
This is his Coal House made with charred wood, which gives it the look of alligator skin. Charring wood is said to protect it from rain, rot and insects for 80 years.

Holy toledo... that's for REAL? I would put on a parachute before stepping in to this abode, ready to jump anytime it seemed to go off-balance. How cool (and scary)!
