Happy Holidays Sale!

Hello lovely readers! I'm hoping you're all having a wonderful holiday season. Mine consisted of eating a lot of Korean and Indian food and just vegging out at home. Well, I just wanted to take the time out to thank you all for your support and reading my little blog. I also wanted to let you know that I've marked down everything in my shop by 50%! I have to do inventory after the year is over, so it would be great if I had fewer things to count. So take advantage because prices will be going back up on Jan 1, 2010.

Get To Know... The Asian Cajuns

Alright kids. This is my last interview for the year, so of course it has to be good. And I do have to say, they've all been good. So for this last one, I'd like to introduce to you, the Asian Cajuns! They are fashionista twins who run the fabulous blog, The Asian Cajuns, and local celebrities. I met them by seeing them at a local restaurant and going up to them saying "Excuse me, are you the Asian Cajuns?" in front of their boyfriends and visiting parents. Hehe, it was a rock star moment. Well, I could go on, so here are their finished sentences, which they did separately. Enjoy and be sure to check out their site!

I am…an AsianCajun.
In another life I was…either a queen or a maid...I'm going to go with queen.

In a future life, I hope to be…a twin again.
Many people don’t know that I…really enjoy a slice of grilled Spam.
I wish I had known sooner...that Anderson Cooper was gay.
I’d like to learn to…enjoy blue cheese.
I can’t believe I…can't run half a mile without getting winded.
I've never...not liked sour patch kids.
If I won the lottery, I would…travel to Sweden and shop at H&M and Ikea.
I’d like to thank the Academy for…recognizing all the people who have made a tremendous difference in the world...of Hollywood.

I am ... the other AsianCajun (my mom didn't know she was having twins until the doctor said, "Oh my God, there's another one.").
In another life I was... probably, you know, the Dalai Lama, or the person who made his sandals.
In a future life, I hope to be... a twin again too! Even if it were twin ligers, I'd vote for having a double.
Many people don't know that I... wish I could sing.
I wish I had known sooner... how to make a good gumbo.
I'd like to learn to... have Hilary Clinton's composure (learning how to rock a pantsuit would be a bonus).
I can't believe I... never got to meet Kevin Aucoin.
I've never... been comfortable in the water, unless it's bathtub.
If I won the lottery, I would... be so tempted to buy the Olsen twins' wardrobe, but I would travel and donate more money to women in third world countries (who will some day soon rule the world).
I'd like to thank the Academy for... nominating me so I could wear this dress and these shoes (red Valentino, sky-high Christian Louboutins)

Get To Know... Gangbusters

I'm really excited to introduce you guys to Kristina, who runs the shop, Gangbusters. I met her last year at the Indie Craft Experience, here in Atlanta, where she had her booth across from mine. And now, we've become friends and knit on the occasional Tuesday for our weekly craft night. She makes resin pendants and cuff links using old and vintage comic books and other random finds. Her booth was a big hit at the Junktique show that I blogged about. So here are her sentences, and yes, she's giving something away!
I am…a firm believer in doing whatever you can to keep yourself happy. I don't keep clothes that don't fit, agonize over projects I don't care about, hang out with people I'm not comfortable around, or eat when I'm not hungry. And I try never to compare myself to anybody else. It seems to work.

I was…trying to be an illustrator for a while. I love to draw. But creative goals freak me out. That's true whether I'm working on someone else's project, like a big commissioned painting, or a long-term project of my own, like a children's book. So I have a big crate of sketchbooks at home, full of drawings that might make adorable kids' books, but you can't have a book with only one picture of a bunny. You have to draw that same bunny over and over again. Just talking about it is making me a little fidgety.

I will be…forever delighted every time I see someone wearing my jewelry out into the world. That just never gets old. I love seeing my prints in people's homes, too. I don't think it's vanity, because it's not about me, it's about the work and the fact that it's making someone happy. It's tough to explain. It's just nice.

In a past life I…was probably a way better dancer. I love music. Sometimes I feel like I'm dancing and then I find out that's not really what I'm doing. Usually someone tells me. Or makes a face.

Many people don’t know that I…know the words to "We Didn't Start the Fire." I couldn't get enough of that song for about a month when I was 12. I listened to the tape on my Walkman everywhere I went. I also had a huge crush on Jeff Goldblum in high school after we read Jurassic Park for class, so I guess I was just a weird kid.

Most nights, you can find me…far away from the computer. It's a big change, because up until a few years ago, I was always on the computer in my free time. In fact, got into graphic design originally as a hobby. Now it's a job, and I feel like eight hours of computer time is enough in a day. So I hang out at home with my boyfriend and make stuff with my hands—jewelry or crafts or food—or I go out.

I’d like to learn to…drive a stick shift, style my hair, run a business, talk to strangers, write great fiction, play a team sport, and mimic every accent in the world. Every one, even Welsh. Accents are The Coolest.

I can’t believe I…live in Atlanta. Growing up, I didn't have a very flattering picture of the South. My opinion of Georgia was more or less based on shows like "Designing Women" and "Green Acres." I thought I'd get here and be surrounded by easily-affronted women who faint at the drop of a hat, and coverall-clad men with a penchant for getting into wacky mix-ups. I was wrong. I like it here.

If I won the lottery, I would…get my mom and grandma a place here in Atlanta and pay someone to load them and all their stuff up into a truck. Apparently, and I don't know if you've heard anything about this, it's difficult to sell a house in South Florida right now.

I’d like to thank the Academy for…always giving lots of awards to Nick Park and Aardman. I know that's a literal answer, but it's true. Their work has always been an inspiration. Park has taken sort of an offbeat talent and focused it into making really unusual, fascinating things. So many brilliant minds at Aardman have gotten together and put thousands of hours of hard work and innovation into a field that strives only to achieve widespread joy. And they receive legitimate respect and recognition for it. It's nice to see evidence that it's possible to find success without folding yourself up to fit into existing niches.
And now for the giveaway! Kristina is graciously giving one lucky winner a choice of any item from her shop! To enter, leave a comment and let me know your favorite item(s) in her shop and what comic books or strips you enjoy now or did while growing up. You must leave your name and e-mail address to be entered. Any entries without both will not be put into the drawing. You have until Monday, Dec 7th to enter, and I will announce the winner on Tuesday.

For additional entries:
1. Become a fan of Gangbusters on Facebook, and write on her wall.
2. Twitter about this giveaway. Please have @juneshindesigns in the tweet so I can track it.
3. Become a June Shin facebook fan and say hi!
4. Join my mailing list and let me know that you did. You can do that from my blog on the upper right.

November Shows

This month, I did 2 shows; Cabbagetown Chomp & Stomp and Junktique. As I've said before, Cabbagetown is my favorite festival. The vibe is always great and we always have a bunch of friends come out for it. Like last year, we had a cooler in my booth stocked with beer and snacks. It was a beautiful day, and my booth was right in front of the amphitheater where bands were playing. It couldn't get more perfect.
Junktique was a show that I decided to do last minute. It was a fundraiser for a local elementary school which had live music, food and drinks, an artist market and a yard sale. The name threw off a lot of customers, as they thought it was only yard sale people. So that wasn't great for us artists, but I was in a room with crafty friends, so I was in good company.

Here is Kristina of Gangbusters. She makes really cool pendants and cuff links using vintage comics and resin. People just loved her stuff.

This is Kaz of Kazstyle, and she makes pouches and other goods using recycled kimonos and obis. So cool.

And here are some pics of soaps, candles and lotions from Love your Mama. Emilie's booth was next to me at the Inman Park Festival, which was awesome because her booth smells so good. I don't use bar soaps, but we did a trade and I chose the peppermint rosemary soy candle. I actually need to get some more.

So I have 2 more shows coming up, then I'll be done for the year. Can you believe the year is almost over?

Get to Know... Fabulously Broke in the City

Hey Everyone! This week, I wanted to introduce you to Miss FB of the blog Fabulously Broke in the City. She writes about personal finance, fashion, and anything else she deems fabulous enough to publish. So I asked to interview her, and she graciously agreed. I hope you will also add her blog to your RSS feed, google reader or whatever you use to keep track of the blogs you love.

I am ... a mid-20s money & style, eco-friendly blogger who got out of $60,000 of debt in 18 months. In my other life, I am a freelancing IT professional who has an awesome boyfriend who can cook like a chef, and organize our apartment like a demon.

In another life I was ... definitely a little noisy piglet. I love to eat, dream, talk and think about food all the time, to anyone who will listen or read my blog. My friends need to be kind people who don't just order salads when we go out to eat.

In a future life, I hope to be ... still doing what I do, maybe now having migrated to Dallas TX, traveling the world and finally retiring at the age of 50 somewhere in Europe.

Many people don't know that... coffee even in small doses, makes me extremely sick. I like to drink tea, but even a small shot of coffee mixed in a scoop of ice cream will make me nauseous. The excess amount of caffeine does pretty nasty things to my head and body. Go figure.

You can usually find me... at the kitchen table on my laptop, doing stuff for my company, wasting time on Twitter or blogging.

I'd like to learn to... speak another language. So far, I only know English and French.

My passion is... wearable style & fashion. You don't need to have a huge walk-in closet with a billion choices to look stylish. Or to wear harem pants or whatever the hell is in fashion right now to look stylish. You just need to buy less, buy quality pieces, look for great cuts and details, layer your clothing and accessorize instead.

I've never.... done any illegal drugs in my life. True story. I was close to it once at the age of 16, but then the parents came home. Since then, I haven't tried or had an urge to try.

If I won the lottery, I would ... continue living the way I do, save the cash and keep quiet about it. I'd put some of it in my bank account, and invest the rest in index funds and bonds. I don't need anything, I don't particularly want to own a home and I don't really need a new car. Maybe I'd take a little trip with BF somewhere.

I'd like to thank the Academy for... opening up the blogosphere to me. I've met so many wonderful people whom I can now call friends through my blog, and it still boggles my mind that I am able to connect and reach to so many people on a daily basis. I never thought this would happen in a million years and I am happy that it has happened to me.

Oktak Winner!

I'm so glad all of you loved this giveaway. I wish I could've entered, because I love Oktak's pouches. Anyway, in order to pick the winner this time, I used The number that was selected was 14, which is Feminine Personae! She's into ruffles right now and loves the pearl dots with ruffles pouch. Thank you, Aki, for letting me interview you!

Get to Know... Oktak

Meet Aki, the woman who designs and makes handmade bags, frame pouches and baby goods at Oktak and Oktakmini. I absolutely love her framed pouches and bought myself a medium sized one. If you haven't been to her shops yet, I highly recommend checking them out. She has also graciously agreed to finish my sentences and giveaway an item from her shop! Read on to learn more about her and how to enter to win.
I am... a designer, crafter, businesswoman, wife & mom, displaced Tokyoite and an avid cat-lover.

I was... a typical "indoor" girl who loved all forms of art - painting, drawing, sewing, dancing, playing music. I remember being four years old and loving rainy days. I was mesmerized by the shapes of rain, and loved crafting as I listened to music.

I will be... focusing more and more on giving back as I grow older. What little I've achieved in life would amount to nothing if I did not give back to anyone.
One of my favorite quotes (this is from the film, "Monsieur Ibrahim"): "What you give is yours forever, what you keep is lost forever".

I am motivated by... beautiful colors and fun designs, and the happiness they bring!

Many people don't know that... I've played the piano since I was four and am pretty good at it!

Most days, you can find me... at home, working on a new project with a cup of tea.

I'd like to learn... Japanese calligraphy, to dress myself properly in a kimono, and take up French again.

I have never... traveled to South America or Australia - those are the only 2 continents I've never set foot on. I'd love to visit some day!

If I won the lottery, I would... buy an apartment here in New York! (We've been looking for several years!) It doesn't have to be lavish, and I'd give the rest away to my favorite charities.

I'd like to thank the Academy for... recognizing my work! It truly feels wonderful to know that other people enjoy what I make as much I enjoy making them. It makes everything worthwhile. Thank you June!!
Now for the giveaway!

There's a great little cafe here in Atlanta called Sun in My Belly, that makes great food and is a great brunch spot. Get To Know... mchen

You may remember when I blogged about a trade I did with another Etsian: my Sway Necklace for her reConnect Monkeys tee dress. Well, this week, we get to know a little bit more about Emily, the designer/illustrator/screen printer and bride-to-be. I am so glad we "met" through Twitter/Etsy, because she is a funny all around awesome chick, and I'm sure that if we were to meet in person, we would have a blast just hanging out and eating great food. Get To Know... Lillyella

Have you met Nicole, the lovely woman behind Lillyella? No? Well let me introduce you. She's sweet and friendly, and just recently got married! So read on to learn a bit about her past, present and future, and how you can enter to win a pair of earrings of your choice (except one of a kinds) or a $15 gift card from her shop!I am… a 31 year old newlywed, 'mom' of many animals, insanely lucky, slightly compulsive, madly motivated, overly organized self-employed jewelry designer who never sleeps, loves peanut butter, is obsessed with her cameras and teaches dance.

I was… a wild child, a rebel, a flutist, a pizza maker, a graphic designer for 10 years and a photographer for a magazine.

I will be… a faithful wife, a loving mother, a good daughter, a successful business owner and happy for the rest of my life.

My passion is…creating. and eating. but mostly creating. I can't function if more than a day goes by and I haven't created something. Doesn't matter much what it is these days, though I thrive best on variety and love finding new projects to get into and thing to try.

Many people don’t know that I… have five tattoos, love goats and can handle a shotgun like nobodys business. (don't worry, I only shoot paper and clay!)

Most days, you can find me… equally divided between my workbench, my computer, my refrigerator door and my bathroom.

I’d like to learn… blacksmithing and welding!

I can't believe that I... make jewelry for a living. seriously. I'm amazed and thankful every single day.

If I won the lottery, I would… buy a huge piece of land somewhere rural, get lots of goats, have an orchard, a huge garden, a turtle habitat, a gigantic workshop and I would make stuff all day long.

I’d like to thank the Academy for… my success, throughout my entire life. Maybe it was my dedication or maybe it was luck. There are times I can see how I got to where I am and there are times I can't believe I'm not dead.

Phydeax Winner!

Many, many thanks to Brenda for allowing us to get to know you better and giving away a pair of mitts! And thanks to everyone who came by to read and enter. And now onto the winner. I've placed everyone's entries in a bowl and randomly picked Phetched, who's favorite Phydeaux item is the Spring Leaf Brooch and would love to see more oranges in the shop. Congratulations on winning a pair of mitts!
Please check back in a few hours to get to know my next artist and see what she's giving away!

Trunk Show and Dinner

For you local Atlantans, if you've never been to the restaurant 4th & Swift, I highly recommend that you go. Last night, my friend, Cathy hosted a combination birthday party/trunk show there and we also went on Tuesday just to check it out before hand. We had a little private area where there was a charcuterie plate and wine for everyone. The staff was really great and the setting was perfect for a jewelry show. Afterwards, a few of us got a table for dinner, and everything was delicious. Here's a glimpse at my set up and the decor of the restaurant.
Thanks Cathy, and Happy Birthday!

High Halloween Fashion

In the October issue of Harper's Bazaar, there is a gorgeous spread of Tim Burton's magical fashion, in anticipation of his retrospective at New York's Museum of Modern Art. Photographed by Tim Walker, these images and fashion are amazing. Here are a few of my faves, and you can see all of it here.
