Studio Time

Nowadays, you will see all the cars here with this greenish, yellow halo, which means that Spring has officially arrived. This means that I'm in the studio a lot making lots of pieces for the Inman Park Festival. I will be continuing my spring cleaning theme, so I am actually going to have a whole sale section this year. I'm going to have a bunch of $10 earrings and items that are 50% off, so mark your calendars. April 28th and 29th are the dates. Below are a few pics of what I've been working on and my process.

My newest studiomate

My studio space is just filled with my tools and supplies, and I've been wanting to decorate it up a bit; maybe put in an inspiration board. I have a good sized Etsy wishlist of things I'd like to get, so it was hard to just purchase one item. Well, the first addition to my studio is this cutie, needle-felted chickee from feltmeupdesigns. Isn't she cute? I haven't given her a name yet, but she just sits on top of my desk watching me bend wire and solder. I've been loving this shop for a while and had a really hard time choosing one. Who knows, maybe she'll have some friends to keep her company when I'm not there. :)For the past two years, I've been wanting to take up needle felting. Maybe one of these days I'll take the plunge. But in the meantime, I will be browsing and purchasing from those who have mastered it.

Moving Back Home

Well, my friend Demetra has decided to close her shoe store, Eviva. This is also where I had set up my jewelry studio, so now I must move it back home. I will miss having a "co-worker."
If you're in the Atlanta area, the closeout sale will be going on through this Saturday. Everything, including furniture and props are on sale. 335 W. Ponce De Leon Ave, Decatur, GA.

Getting Organized - Jewelry Desk

At the start of this year, I was going through a creative rut and channeled my energy into organizing some things around the house and in my life. I was determined to get a desk for my jewelry tools and supplies, so that I could move off the dining table and free it up for G's cooking endeavors. While browsing the internet for desks, I decided the best thing for me would be a secretary desk. That way, I would be able to hide the messy contents of my "jewelry bench." Ikea had the perfect one, the Alve Secretary Desk. For this desk, they have a storage bench where you can put hanging files and such, and fits perfectly under the desk. I was so excited to find all this, because I didn't have a dedicated space for my jewelry. I was constantly taking out my supplies, then putting them away. It was fine when I first started, but my supplies and materials have grown so much, that I really needed to do something about it. And the best part of this is that I found the desk on Craigslist for $80! Score!
I also bought a slim storage tower to put beside my desk and multi-drawer cabinets, seen on top of it, all from the Container Store. I do think that stuff from the Container Store can be a bit pricey, but I couldn't find anything else that would fit so perfectly in my space.

There is also an add on cabinet from Ikea which fits above the desk, that I plan on purchasing in the near future. Those multi-drawer cabinets are great, but not very pretty. So the cabinet will hide it all very nicely.

Wanted: Studio Shed

If you read my post on 6 random things, then you know I once wanted to be an architect. I no longer aspire to that, but I do still love to look at houses and browse through magazines such as Architectural Digest and Dwell. This month's Dwell is all about prefab houses. What is prefab? According to Dwell, it is basically where "a home is fabricated in one location and then delivered to another." Many are transportable, but don't confuse it with a mobile home. It's so much more than that. If you move to another city, imagine being able to move your house with you! Well, there was a feature on prefab sheds for a little get away in your own backyard. My favorite was this little cabana made by Modern Cabana that is simple, minimalistic and provides lots of light. Perfect for a little studio that I can call my own.

Here's one designed by Modern-Shed.

Prices for Modern Cabana start at $11,500 and for Modern-Shed start at $7,440. If I win the lotto and we buy a house with a big yard, I might just get me one of these.
